Long D. Nguyen, Ph.D., P.E.

I have been a lecturer at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology since June 2009. Before that, I worked as a construction consultant at Jax Kneppers Associates, Inc (JKA) in Walnut Creek, California. I am a licensed professional engineer in California. Biography
Long Nguyen holds a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam, 01/1999), an M.Eng. at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) (Thailand, 04/2003), and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley (05/2005 and 12/2007, respectively). He was awarded the Mahesh Varma Prize for the most outstanding academic performance among students in his field of study at AIT. He worked in the construction industry as a structural designer and then a site engineer from 01/1999 to 08/2001. From 07/2003 to 03/2004, he worked in Hong Kong as a research assistant at the Department of Building and Construction, City University of Hong Kong. He used to practice construction consulting in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA. He is a registered civil engineer in California.

He was in the U.S from 06/2004 to 06/2009. He attended an English for Specific Purposes program in summer 2004 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From 08/2004 to 12/2007, he was a doctoral student at the Engineering and Project Management Program, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Berkeley.

• Graduate fellowship by the College of Engineering, UC Berkeley, 2006-2007.

• Block grant by Engineering and Project Management program, UC Berkeley, 2006-2007.

• Fellowship for the graduate program at UC Berkeley by VEF, 2004-2006.

Mahesh Varma Prize for the most outstanding academic performance among graduate students in CEIM program, AIT, Thailand, 2003.

• Full scholarship for the Masters program at AIT by the Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) , 2001-2003.

• Third prize at the National Mechanics Olympiad organized by the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnamese Association of Mechanics, 1997.
